ANIMATION BREAKDOWN: Seussapalooza! (feat. The 5,000 Fingers of Dr. T)

1:00pm – a selection of Dr. Seuss 16mm animations!
2:30pm – The 5,000 Fingers of Dr. T

What wondiferous news! It’s coming, it’s near — the good Dr. Seuss’ good birthday is here! Join us this afternoon as we celebrate, as the Doc turns a whopping one hundred — plus eight! We’ll fill the screen with a bevy of beloved creations: a feast of 16mm animations from his magical world of infinite reaches, full of cats-in-hats, zax, green eggs, lorax and sneeches!
And we don’t know about you (though we hope that we do), but we’re weary of seeing such Seussdoms get plundered (particularly one oh-so-currently Once-Ler’d!). We’ll be keeping it vintage today, with films to which the real Seuss gave “the OK”. Then once we’ve been sated with the Seusstoons we’ll see – it’s The 5,000 Fingers of Dr. T (‘53). It’s the only live-action film which The Dr. lent his hand — it’s incredible, colorful, groovy and grand. Rollerskate-wearing twins who are joined at the beard, a nefarious piano profs and his blue goons (so weird!), and musical numbers that have aged wonderfully — it’s the only Seuss feature you may need ever see. So come toast with Who-goblets and share that green ham at the Seussapalooza with your Cinefam’!
The 5,000 Fingers of Dr. T Dir. Roy Rowland, 1953, 35mm, 89 min.
