Point Break + live Greg Proops podcast taping!

In addition to being one of the mind-warpingly quick-draw improv comics on earth, Greg Proops is The Smartest Man In The World — or, at least, that’s an apt moniker for his lugubrious, salacious, verbacious weekly podcast. Tonight, Greg records his latest episode live on the Cinefamily stage, and then it’s time for Point Break in 35mm, the best way Greg knows how to celebrate summer. Greg sez: “The movie of the ‘90s. Keanu before The Matrix, Swayze when he strode the Earth like a Titan. The IMDB synopsis reads, ‘An FBI agent goes undercover to catch a gang of bank robbers who may be surfers.’ This is wildly insufficient. Keanu is Johnny fucking Utah (a former Heisman Trophy winner) and his FBI partner is Gary Busey in maniac mode (as if he has another kind.) ‘May be surfers’? Dude, this is the “Ex-Presidents” bankrobbing gang; Swayze their leader, is a spiritual seeker, adrenaline junkie and part-time psychopath named Bohdi. They surf the cosmos. This picture is non-stop mayhem: nighttime surfing, full-contact touch football, pillow shooting, skydiving without a parachute, gunfights in Reagan masks, heedless truck driving, Anthony Kiedis “acting”, tequila body shots, Busey reading Garfield, chili dogs, philosophical surf shop employees — this one brings all the magic and leaves it on the tarmac. Vaya con dios, brah.” Proops will deconstruct, reanimate and regale this fine classic, plus tackle 467 ancilliary tangents in an expert flick of the verbal wrist. Be there!
Point Break Dir. Kathryn Bigelow, 1991, 35mm, 123 min.

Q: Does Greg talk over the movies, like the Doug Benson Movie Interruption?
A: No. It is a recording of his podcast, followed by a screening of the film.
