Negativland, LIVE! (w/ opening act: Daedelus) + "The Year of the Sex Olympics"

We’re so very, very proud to welcome for the first time on the Cinefamily stage a band that has completely influenced our ways of thinking forever about how media and music intertwine — and has wowed us for decades with their impossibly well-pointed satire. Is Negativland a “band”? Media hoaxers? Activists? Artists? Musicians? Filmmakers? Culture jammers? Comedians? An inspiration for the unwashed many? A nuisance for the corporate few? They are ALL OF THESE THINGS — and for the first time in 34 years of presenting unique one-of-a-kind stage shows, Negativland will perform radically new versions of many ancient Negativland favorites that have never before been heard live. This brand-new show finds Negativland teaming up with with San Francisco electronic musician Wobbly and “live cinema” video artist Steev Hise for a unique performance that sonically/visually reinvents many of their favorite past and present dialogue cut-ups, while showcasing the band’s homemade electronic noise-making devices that they call “boopers.” This unclassifiable and uniquely American experimental group has been cutting up analog audio tape to “sample” long before the term even existed — come revel in their gleeful madness. The evening’s show opens with a live set by Cinefamily friend/electronic wizard Daedelus — and after intermission, it’s one of Negativland’s favorite weirdo movies: the ’60s BBC sci-fi production of “The Year Of The Sex Olympics”, written by Nigel Kneale!
