Greg Proops (one of the most mind-warpingly quick-draw improv comics on earth) records the latest episode of his monthly Film Club podcast live — and then it’s time for The Palm Beach Story. Greg sez: Have a Screwball Holiday. We went Preston Sturges again with this screwiest of screwball comedies. Hot Comedy Dream Couple Claudette Colbert and Joel McCrea are broke and in order to to save their marriage she splits for Palm Beach for a quickie divorce. They are also in a pair of identical twins. I know, none of it makes any sense. She meets the world’s squarest most gullible millionaire, JD Hackensacker III (Rudy Vallee) and we are off to the races. They find an ally in the crazy millionaire Weinie King, (Robert Dudley), “I’m the Wienie King! Invented the Texas Wienie! Lay off ‘em, you’ll live longer.” A mad train ride with the Ale and Quail club, a flirty royal named Princess Centimillia (Mary Astor) oh, never mind. This movie is a riot. Be there and have some fun. Try to forget all the Vince Vaughn and Ben Affleck Christmas movies and dip into insanity. We promise to make your holiday better even if you are in show business and bitter beyond repair.

Dir. Preston Sturges, 1942, 35mm, 88 min.
