Concert for Dogs & Heart of a Dog w/ Laurie Anderson

12/20/2015 - 4PM

“Wouldn’t it be great if you’re playing a concert and you look out and everyone’s a dog?” Laurie Anderson—dog-lover, musician, and visual artist extraordinaire—recalls musing in conversation with Yo-Yo Ma, while waiting backstage at a graduation ceremony. True to form, the multi-talented Anderson has made her outlandish dream come true, first at the Sydney Opera House, and now at The Cinefamily!

Featuring canine-friendly high frequencies, Anderson’s multivalent composition will be paired with her latest film, Heart of a Dog, a melangé of memories and fantasies surrounding Anderson’s late dog Lolabelle (watch Lolabelle playing piano here!!), and followed by a Q&A.

Though unaccompanied humans may purchase tickets, the finest seats will be in our limited VID (“Very Important Dog”) section, exclusively available to those accompanied by canines!

SUPER TIGHT Year-End Holiday Blowout

12/19/2015 - 10PM

Imagine a magical party playground where all the strange, funny, and beautiful elements of art, comedy and music come to mingle…

SUPER TIGHT—a show that gathers the perfect amount of each of these elements into a frosty martini shaker, adds some magic mushrooms, and shakes until sun up—is back at the Cinefamily for a surreal & psychedelic year-end Holiday party. Hosted by Casey Rup (of Starburns Industries) and Kevin Riggin (of Days of Our Lives), and sponsored by SBI Comics & Hot Dad—this show is the perfect place to purge all your year-end debauchery and start fresh for 2016.

This month’s show will feature a special holiday meditation from Duncan Trussell, a video presentation from The Dress Up Gang, characteristically eccentric characters and observations from Alana Johnston, a noisy comedy/music set from Johnny Pemberton, Miles Cooper Seaton (of Akron/Framily) live scoring a fantastical classic short-film, a music set by modular synth-wizards Fartbarf, a DJ set by Devendra Banhart, art installations from Lola Rose Thompson, Casey Jane Ellison, and Johnny Woods, close-up magic from The Magic Castle, topped off with eggnog and Christmas carolers galore!

On the back patio enjoy specialty cocktails, and delicious food by Cinefamily Chef Gary Campbell, aka Stiff Peaks.

A groundbreaking television series from 1968, That’s Life ambitiously brought an hour long Broadway style musical comedy to the weekly ABC lineup. It followed the ups and downs of a young couple (played by Morse and E.J. Peaker) as they fell in love, got married, bought a house, had a baby, and celebrated their first Christmas. The Cinefamily will unspool musical numbers and comedy routines unseen for 45 years featuring guest stars Liza Minnelli, Goldie Hawn, Paul Lynde and Rodney Dangerfield… With a special emphasis on groovy Christmas carols to celebrate the season!

Transparent Season 2 Viewing Party + Pot Luck!

12/6/2015 - 4PM

Cast & Crew in person + Pot Luck!

The long-awaited Season 2 of Jill Soloway’s acclaimed Amazon Original series, Transparent, is about to drop—and we’re watching it the best way we know how… a MARATHON! If we’re being honest, this is how we indulge in all our favorite television shows in the privacy of our own homes… and we know you do too.

Transparent chronicles the trials of the Pfefferman family, an acerbic and intense bunch. Their intensely engrossing dramas are deeply felt; “few shows navigate seemingly impossible pivots from tragedy to comedy with such offhand grace” (Variety).

Join us, along with the series’ cast & crew, for the marathon, potluck, and Q&A, featuring Micah Fitzerman-Blue, Faith Soloway, Zackary Drucker, Hilda Rasula, Sunny Hodge and Jim Frohna! It’s the first night of Hanukkah, so whip up some latkes and pick up some gelt for the potluck!

The 1985 Twilight Zone: 30th Anniversary of the CBS series!!

12/5/2015 - 5:30PM

w/ Harlan Ellison, Rockne S. O Bannon, Bradford May, Michael Cassutt, Alan Brennert, Paul Lynch, William Atherton, J.D. Feigelson, Martin Pasko, Rebecca (Parr) Beck & Steven Railsback in person!

You unlock this door with the key of imagination. Beyond it is another dimension—a dimension of sound, a dimension of sight, a dimension of mind. You’re moving into a land of both shadow and substance, of things and ideas—you just crossed over into the Twilight Zone…

Rod Serling opened his beloved, suspenseful, witty, and social commentary-filled drama with the same intonation every time, before presenting each delightfully formulaic science fiction fantasy, from 1959 to 1964. Those episodes will never cease to be replayed, but in 1985 CBS gave fans some new material to latch onto… an 80s revival of the series, created with the participation of writers, filmmakers, and actors for whom the original was a beloved memory. Join Cinefamily and the cast & crew of the 80s Twilight Zone at this 30th anniversary marathon and celebration, showcasing our absolute favorite 80s style sci-fi!!!

Vision Quest: 30th Anniversary Cast & Crew Reunion!

12/4/2015 - 7:30PM

Co-Presented by warnerarchive_300_90

w/ Dir. Harold Becker, Actors Gary Kasper, Frank Jasper, Harold Sylvester, Raphael Sbarge & Ronny Cox in person!

It’s not often that we showcase a sports drama here at Cinefamily, but when a film is as deeply tuned as Vision Quest, we’ll gladly make an exception. This one’s a stone cold coming-of-age classic, a finely detailed character study carefully balanced to dig deeper, while still hitting the perfect stand-up-and-cheer beats. In a stunning, lightning-rod role, Matthew Modine must come to terms with life, love, family & sport as a high school wrestler trying to shed weight in a dangerously short time in order to take on the undefeated, tough-as-nails champ who’s the best in the state. But his dreams of winning big could be sidelined by Linda Fiorentino, a sexy drifter whose arrival threatens to pin him to the mat of unrequited love. Featuring a killer score by Tangerine Dream, a raging soundtrack of ‘80s hits (Madonna, Journey, Foreigner) and a pitch-perfect cast giving high caliber performances, you’ll go crazy for Vision Quest!

Dir. Harold Becker, 1985, 35mm, 107 min.
