5TH INT'L WAYNE FEDERMAN FILM FEST: Zach Galifianakis presents Blue Ruin

Zach Galifianakis, veritable everyman of the comedy world, brings an unmistakably singular bent to every character he plays—whether in Visioneers, Out Cold, Youth in Revolt, or Tim & Eric’s Billion Dollar Movie, Galifianakis presents unique aloofness, grounded in discernable darkness. So, it comes as no surprise that Zach has chosen to show Jeremy Saulnier’s (underrated master behind Murder Party & Green Room) lean, mean, stripped-down, ultra-grim, and masterful tale of revenge, Blue Ruin. A deceptively simple premise concerning a man returning to his hometown for a big ol’ heaping spoonful of vengeance, patiently escalates into a nail-biting, brutalist, bloody, Chekhov’s gun-fueled ballad of one man’s attempt to settle a score that just won’t stay in the past.

Dir. Jeremy Saulnier, 2013, DCP, 90 min.
