5TH INT'L WAYNE FEDERMAN FILM FEST: Matt Besser presents Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band

Matt Besser—co-founding member of the Upright Citizens Brigade & host of improvisationally driven podcast Improv4humans—has decided to bless the patrons of Cinefamily with a screening of Michael Schultz’s (Greased Lightning, Cooley High) wonderfully high-camp, gleefully-silly, jukebox musical that John Lennon and George Harrison refused to see.

Starring Peter Frampton and The Bee Gees, and featuring an absolutely unbelievable lineup including Donald Pleasance, Steve Martin, Alice Cooper, Aerosmith, Earth, Wind & Fire, Billy Preston, Etta James, Tina Turner and many, many more, Pepper’s features distinctly odd covers of Beatles songs via Abbey Road & Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band, plus a plot so loose that it quickly takes the back seat in this WW1-infused, acid-trip of a must-be-seen-to-be-believed slice of stubborn cinematic esotericism.

Dir. Michael Schultz, 1978, 35mm, 113 min.
